The Evolution of True Ribbon
The RAAL 1995 Magna EVO I is built around a newly developed dual-ribbon driver configuration designated as the R2e1 system. This architecture marks a significant evolutionary step in ribbon transducer design by introducing a segmented ribbon array that treats different zones of the human ear independently.
The specialized mechanics of this technology operate on several key fronts:
Segmented Ear-Zone Interaction
Instead of projecting a uniform acoustic wavefront across the entire outer ear, the R2e1 motor splits the transduction work between physically distinct front and rear ribbon segments:
The Rear Ribbon Segment (Acoustic Damping): Positioned directly over the concha (the ear shell) and antihelix, this ribbon is covered with a specialized open-cell hard foam progressive damping layer. This acoustic foam absorbs and moderates upper-midrange and lower-treble energy, actively suppressing bouncing wave reflections in the concha to eliminate sibilance, harshness, and listening fatigue.
The Front Ribbon Segment (Direct High-Frequency Delivery): Placed directly above the ear canal, this ribbon segment remains completely open and unobstructed. Because the corresponding zone of the ear does not naturally over-amplify high frequencies, treble energy projects straight into the canal to deliver linear, effortless high-frequency extension, pristine air, and the highly resolved micro-detail often described as "diamond dust".
Excursion Control and Low-End Power
Under the hood, the R2e1 motor implements enhanced ribbon excursion control and power handling. This mechanical refinement allows the pure aluminum ribbons to vibrate safely and precisely over larger physical distances. This structural control allows the Magna EVO I to extend its low-frequency response much deeper into the sub-bass octaves compared to the original Magna, delivering a warmer, thicker, and highly authoritative bass response that carries realistic physical weight and punch.

“The original Magna OG has a very tight and punchy upper bass. The Magna EVO I has a nice bottom that seamlessly extends into upper bass, lower mids, and onwards.
It’s same upper bass as the Magna OG, but with more serious torque down in the sub bass region.” -
“The Magna OG was appreciated for more intimate midrange than the lusher IMMANIS, so I added more of that to the Magna EVO I: it is even more intimate but with ‘larger’ character of vocals that better connect to bass and low mid.”
-
“We subdued the upper mid region compared to the Magna OG: just enough to still be present and lively, but brought down so it doesn't emphasize sheer speed of ribbons, which helps for overly bright recordings and makes a generally warmer and smoother presentation. That was done through the way I present that frequency region to Concha and Antihelix and the way I use absorption in that area to prevent bouncing waves between that area of the ear and the ribbon driver.
So, of the two ribbons in the Magna EVO I, the one in the rear, which is directly over the Concha, is covered with open cell hard foam that slightly absorbs upper mid and, of course, increases the absorption as you go higher in frequency.
This carefully chosen amount and shape of absorption is just enough to moderate the FR that shoots straight ahead into the Concha.
This region is also very much affected with the cable, so if you're looking for warmth and creamy upper mid, the cable that comes as standard with the headphone, Satis Copper 1.8m, is doing a great job for that.” -
“The ribbon which is in front is completely open, and that one is over the ear canal.
That region of the ear is not amplifying much of anything, so you can play unobstructed highs into that region without sounding "peaky". All you get is just superb ribbon highs that are as smooth and even. if you seek for that "Diamond dust" sparkle, using STAR-8 Silver and STAR-12 cables are the ticket for that.”

Next Generation Build Quality
The MAGNA EVO I features our newly developed R2e1 segmented True-Ribbon™ driver, treating different zones of your ear independently to deliver deeper sub-bass authority, rich midrange intimacy, and a completely fatigue-free presentation. By pairing a progressively dampened rear ribbon that tames harsh concha reflections with a completely open front ribbon that projects pristine treble directly into the ear canal, every track is rendered with breathtaking transient speed and sparkling "diamond dust" detail.
Designed for listeners who demand an organic, deeply emotional connection to their music without compromising on reference-level performance
